A Brief History
After building up experience working in various firms, Mr. Joaquin Urpinas Boada and a friend decided to try their luck in setting up their own business. In April 1948 they applied to the Engineering Director of the Barcelona Council for Industry for permission to set up a mechanical workshop for repairing machinery. At the beginning the workforce consisted of two people.
In 1952 the number of workers rose to 7 as the firm Miquel Ros offered prospects for growth; in using a new textile machine process, this firm urgently needed to renew spare parts.
In October of 1949 the firm was able to move to new premises with 200 square metres of floor space. By 1962 there were already 11 people working at Talleres Urpinas.
A new customer ordered moulds for casting cement girders. However, the most productive relationship was with the Tarragona-Export distribution business, with which they specialised in manufacturing pantographs and milling machine sharpeners under the CIUTAR brand.
Talleres Urpinas has steadily progressed and presently has a team of expert professionals who, in applying their imagination and ingenuity, are able to meet the specific needs of each customer and propose the most suitable solution in each case. Talleres Urpinas now has 2,000 square metres of premises and 40 employees.
